A chronic disease, also known as a persistent illness or long-term condition, is a long-lasting disease or health condition that has a recurring or continuing course of recurrent symptoms despite time or recurrences. The word chronic is most commonly applied if the course of the ailment lasts for over three years. is fibromyalgia, also called Myalgia. Fibromyalgia is classified as a chronic illness because the intensity of the pain experienced can vary drastically from one sufferer to another. This affliction can cause such extreme pain that people cannot even lie down on a cold tile. A lot of people have described this debilitating ailment as something close to a full heart attack. In the United States, this chronic condition affects almost 20 percent of the population.
Arthritis is another very common and chronic disease
affecting the human health condition of rheumatoid arthritis, also known as systemic lupus erythematosus. It is also considered one of the most disabling rheumatic diseases in the world today. The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Disease has reported that almost half of all rheumatoid arthritis patients experience some level of serious arthritic symptoms regularly.

is heart disease, which is also known as coronary artery disease. Heart disease can affect any person regardless of his age or gender. It is the number one cause of death in the United States, although it is also one of the most common types of death in other parts of the world. The majority of heart disease victims are men between the ages of forty and fifty. This is probably due to a higher fat content in the diet of men compared to women, and a high amount of animal fat.
Lung cancer is one of the most dreaded chronic diseases of our time.
It has been confirmed that the United States has the largest number of smokers than anywhere else in the entire world. Also, it is one of the three leading causes of cancer deaths in the United States. The good news is that quitting smoking now will reduce your chances of developing cancer in the lungs significantly. It should be added though, that people who already have chronic diseases should never start smoking again without the advice and consent of their doctor.
The list of very common chronic diseases
is quite lengthy, but it only touches the surface. Also on this list are diabetes, Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Lupus, and many others. Physical activity has been proven to drastically reduce the risks of developing even one of these diseases. It is no coincidence that the most common disease that plagues the elderly today happens to be a result of a lack of physical activity.
